Volkswagen Taigun Compact SUV Unveiled In India

Volkswagen has unveiled its first compact-SUV segment car in India with the name of Taigun. Volkswagen is using the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform to build Taigun. This ‘made-for-India’ new model will help Volkswagen to build the company’s future in India.

Volkswagen said, “Today, we present the next big step for Volkswagen in India. Volkswagen creating this SUV especially keeping in mind the needs of the Indian customer. We’re confident that this product offers a perfect combination of sportiness and sophistication, making it the right choice for our valued Indian customers.”

Taigun Exterior

We expect that Taigun will have very funky color options. The Volkswagen Taigun has VW’s signature chrome grille, LED headlamp setup and long silver diffuser at front. From the side, it will have vinyl graphics at the C-pillar. It gets the new diamond-cut alloy wheels and there are cladding around the wheel arches and side of the car to showcase car as rugged SUV. The officials also told that it possesses the big bonnet to resemble the SUV. The Rear has Glossy basement and The LED tail lamp at the rear is joined in a way that looks like a single piece with the Volkswagen logo in the center. There is a spoiler on the top and the lower portion of the rear bumper with the brushed aluminum finish with reflector lights integration.

Taigun Interior

The interior will have dual-tone and gets a layered dashboard with color-matching with its body color. It gets a new digital instrument cluster, automatic headlamps and a semi-digital infotainment system. However features like sun-roof, six-airbags and other premium features are inbox now. Some of the features might not come with a production version to keep the costs down in a price-sensitive market like ours.

India 2.0

VW showed the INDIA 2.0 vision for making the Volkswagen group efficient. Volkswagen is planning to launch the four new SUVs in the next two years.

Volkswagen and Skoda expect the Indian market will grow to six million by 2035 and will continuously grow in the future and they set India 2.0 project with a billion euros (Rs. 7,900 crores) investment. VW Group has delivered more than 52,000 cars in India in 2019. They trying to achieve new heights under the new strategy and India 2.0 project. VW is planning to introduce 30 electrified vehicles until 2022 end.

Taigun Engine

Taigun has a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine that able to generate 115 bhp max power with 200 Nm torque. The engine will come in a new BS6 format. We can expect the engine will available with DSG automatic transmissions.

Taigun Price

The price is expected to be attractive considering the premium features and specifications which will offer in Taigun. It is expected to between Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs(ex-showroom) price. Volkswagen Taigun will compete against Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 300, Hyundai venue and Ford Ecosport.
