The 2023 Tata Nexon: A Compelling Proposition

The Nexon has consistently been one of the best-selling sub-4m SUVs, and the latest facelift is expected to continue its success in this competitive segment. The Nexon.ev, being India’s highest-selling electric SUV/crossover, receives its first update since its debut. With these updates, Tata is aligning its beloved sub-4m SUV lineup with the contemporary design language inspired by Curvv.

Previously, Tata used letters to denote trim levels from XE to XZ, but the new Nexon variant lineup introduces a fresh nomenclature. The lineup now includes Smart, Smart+, Smart+ (S), Pure+, Pure+ (S), Creative, Creative+, Creative+ (S), Fearless, Fearless (S), and Fearless+ (S) trims, infusing a sophisticated and up-market appeal into the Nexon. However, Nexon.ev goes a step further with a trim level above Nexon, known as ‘Empowered.’

Curvv-Inspired Design

The fresh design language adopted by Tata is a significant departure from its predecessors, signaling a new era for Tata’s vehicles aimed at mainstream audiences. The front fascia now features sleeker LED DRLs, vertically arranged LED headlights, and a redesigned bumper that balances sportiness and sophistication.

From the side profile, the Nexon maintains its familiar silhouette, with the doors retaining their previous appearance. However, the addition of new 16” alloy wheel designs lends a swanky and aerodynamic appeal. The LED tail lights sport a new pattern with a connected design, keeping up with current trends, and the rear bumper has received subtle enhancements.

Inside the cabin, Tata has thoroughly updated both the Nexon and Nexon.ev. The redesigned dashboard now houses a larger 10.25” touchscreen for the Nexon and a 12.3” touchscreen for the Nexon.ev, both of which support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The all-new instrument cluster boasts full-screen maps and other improvements. Automatic variants feature a redesigned gear selector, and the 2-spoke steering wheel has an illuminated logo at its center. Convenient toggles for audio and cruise controls have been integrated, along with a futuristic touch-sensitive panel for the HVAC controls, a first in its segment. The purple upholstery adds a touch of sophistication to the Nexon’s interiors, perfectly complementing the exclusive Fearless trim’s exterior purple shade.

The 2023 Tata Nexon.ev lineup shares similar design updates inside and out, although the full-width LED DRL is exclusive to this lineup. Features like ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, LED projector headlights, leatherette upholstery, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully digital instrument cluster are common between both the Nexon and Nexon.ev models. The same 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines continue to power both models, with revised transmission options. Base petrol variants now come with a 5-speed manual transmission, while top-spec petrol automatic variants feature a 7-speed DCT. Mid-level petrol and all diesel automatic variants receive the same 6-speed AMT unit.

The Nexon.ev retains the same battery setups as the Prime and Max models, now categorized as Medium Range and Long Range models. The motor has undergone slight enhancements, resulting in lighter weight and slightly improved performance. The Medium Range model offers a range of 325 km, while the Long Range model extends that to an impressive 465 km. Nexon.ev also boasts V2L (Vehicle to Load) and V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) capabilities. The Arcade.ev suite of apps provides access to various video streaming platforms, games, and video conferencing features, enhancing productivity and entertainment while the Nexon.ev is charging at public stations or stuck in traffic.
