If you own a TVS iQube or are planning to buy one, there’s something concerning you should know. Even though TVS just launched new iQube variants, a serious issue with the scooter has come to light, raising safety concerns among customers. Let’s dive into the details. 🚨
TVS iQube Controversy – A Major Flaw?
TVS recently introduced the iQube ST variant in India, expanding its electric scooter lineup. The price now starts at ₹94,999 and goes up to ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). However, amid the excitement of this launch, a major structural flaw has been reported by an iQube owner.
A customer named Mohit Badaya from Rajasthan shared a shocking issue – his iQube’s tubular frame broke and bent out of shape without any accident! He posted videos on Instagram showing the bent chassis, making the scooter unsafe to ride.
Mohit also claimed that multiple iQube scooters at a single service center had the same issue. In fact, after sharing his video, he received several complaints from iQube owners across the country facing a similar problem. This raises serious doubts about the build quality and durability of the TVS iQube.
What Could Have Gone Wrong?
Right now, there’s limited information on what exactly is causing this issue. However, here are some possible reasons:
- Frame Design & Weight Distribution – The TVS iQube weighs 118 kg and has a custom tubular frame. It comes with three battery packs, one under the floor and two in front of the under-seat storage. The floor-mounted battery is the heaviest, and this might be putting extra stress on the chassis.
- Poor Indian Road Conditions – Given the bad roads in India, repeated impact over potholes and speed breakers might be causing weak points in the frame to crack or bend.
- Manufacturing Defects – If multiple scooters are facing the same issue, there could be a design flaw or a defect in the production process.
TVS Responds to the Issue
WheelsofMotor reached out to TVS Motors for an official response. A spokesperson from the company stated:
🗣️ “With over 300,000 TVS iQube customers, we are dedicated to delivering the highest quality engineering and customer experience. Recently, a social media post raised concerns about a product quality issue faced by one of our customers. Please be assured that the issue is being addressed as per our rigorous quality guidelines. We will continue to ensure the exceptional performance and reliability of TVS iQube.”
While TVS has acknowledged the issue, they haven’t provided a clear solution or recall plan yet.
What Should TVS Do Next?
This isn’t the first time an Indian EV has faced such problems. Ola S1 Pro users had previously reported sudden suspension failures. Ola later upgraded their suspension with a stronger arm, fixing the issue.
As one of India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturers, TVS must take quick action to investigate the iQube’s frame durability. Possible solutions could include: ✅ Reinforcing the chassis to make it stronger.
✅ Issuing a recall or free repairs for affected scooters.
✅ Conducting a thorough investigation and updating customers.
Final Thoughts – Should You Buy the TVS iQube?
The TVS iQube remains a popular electric scooter with a strong customer base. However, this chassis issue is serious and needs urgent attention from TVS. If you own an iQube, keep an eye out for any frame damage and report it immediately to TVS service centers.
