Ola Electric is shaking up the electric scooter market in India with significant price cuts on its S1 X range. This move aims to make electric scooters more accessible to budget-conscious buyers and challenge both established electric and traditional petrol scooter options.
A Scooter for Every Budget:
The S1 X lineup now starts at a compelling Rs. 69,999, making it a very attractive proposition. Three variants are available, each with a different battery pack capacity: 2 kWh, 3 kWh, and 4 kWh. This allows buyers to choose the range that best suits their needs and budget. Prices for the higher range options are Rs. 84,999 and Rs. 99,999 respectively. Deliveries are set to commence next week, so eager riders won’t have to wait long to experience electric mobility.
Range and Performance:
The IDC-certified range of the S1 X scooters varies depending on the battery pack. The 4 kWh battery boasts an impressive 190 km range, while the 3 kWh and 2 kWh options offer 143 km and a still-respectable range, respectively. All models come equipped with a 6 kW motor, providing ample power for navigating city streets.
Acceleration and Speed:
The S1 X lineup offers brisk acceleration, with all scooters capable of reaching 0-40 km/h in a thrilling 3.3 seconds. The top speed varies slightly depending on the battery pack. The 4 kWh and 3 kWh variants achieve a top speed of 90 km/h, while the 2 kWh option reaches 85 km/h.
Features and Safety:
Ola addresses customer feedback by including a physical key in all S1 X models, a feature requested by many. Additionally, all scooters come with three riding modes – Eco, Normal, and Sports – allowing riders to optimize performance based on their needs. Safety is further enhanced with an 8-year/80,000 km extended battery warranty offered at no additional cost. Customers can also opt for an extended warranty that increases the coverage to 125,000 km for Rs. 4,999.
Convenience and Customization:
For added convenience, Ola offers a 3 kW portable fast charger accessory priced at Rs. 29,999. This allows riders to charge their scooters on the go, addressing range anxiety concerns. The top-spec S1 X boasts features like OTA updates, music control, remote boot lock/unlock, Bluetooth/GPS connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, cruise control, and Ola app control, offering a truly connected riding experience.
A Brighter Future for Electric Scooters:
Ola Electric believes these price cuts mark a turning point for the Indian EV industry. By making electric scooters more affordable, Ola aims to accelerate EV adoption and create a cleaner future for transportation. The wide range of S1 X scooters with various price points ensures there’s an option for almost every budget, making electric mobility a realistic choice for a wider audience.
With this aggressive pricing strategy and a feature-packed lineup, Ola Electric is poised to make significant waves in the Indian two-wheeler market. The coming weeks will be interesting as we see how traditional scooter manufacturers respond to this challenge and if electric scooters become a more common sight on Indian roads.
