Renault is bringing the heat to the compact SUV segment with the all-new Duster. This Creta rival boasts a surprising engine option – a 1.3-liter turbo petrol unit shared with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class!

Engine Choices:

Globally, the Duster offers three engines: 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.3L turbo petrol (the Mercedes connection!), and a 1.2L plug-in hybrid (unlikely for India).

  • 1.0L Turbo Petrol: This familiar engine, also found in the Renault Kiger, gets a power bump for the Duster.
  • 1.3L Turbo Petrol (Mercedes connection!): Duster gets a detuned version of the powerful engine from the Mercedes A-Class, offering 156 bhp (compared to 168 bhp in Mercedes). This isn’t the first rodeo for this engine in India, as Renault offered it before discontinuing the Duster.
  • 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol: A budget-friendly option for those prioritizing fuel efficiency.

Transmission choices likely include 6-speed manual and CVT gearboxes.

Design Refresh:

The Duster gets a complete makeover, looking more like a rugged SUV than ever. New headlights, bumpers, taillights, and alloy wheels give it a fresh look. The rear door handles are now positioned on the C-pillars, similar to the Maruti Swift.

Upgraded Interior:

The cabin is all-new, designed for practicality. A large 10.1-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard, while storage areas and a driver-oriented center console enhance convenience.

Feature Packed:

The Duster gets modern features like a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, a premium sound system, and an electronic parking brake. We’ll have to wait and see if Renault offers ADAS features in India, considering they’re available globally.

Launch and Price:

Expect a mid-2025 launch for the Duster. Renault will likely undercut the Hyundai Creta on price, aiming for a range of Rs 12.50 lakh to Rs 22.75 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The new Duster promises a powerful engine option, a stylish redesign, and a feature-rich interior. This Creta challenger could shake up the compact SUV segment!
