Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading carmaker, is stepping on the gas pedal to meet the ever-growing demand for its vehicles. The company recently inaugurated a new assembly line at its Manesar plant in Haryana, boasting a production capacity of 1 lakh units annually. This addition significantly boosts the plant’s overall manufacturing capacity to a staggering 9 lakh units per year.

A Momentous Occasion: The Ertiga Leads the Way

The exciting news doesn’t stop there. The first car to have the privilege of rolling off this new assembly line was none other than the popular Maruti Ertiga! This marks a significant milestone for both the Ertiga and the Manesar plant, highlighting Maruti Suzuki’s continued commitment to innovation and production efficiency.

Manesar Plant: A Legacy of Achievement

The Manesar plant itself boasts a remarkable history. Established in February 2007, it has achieved numerous production milestones. Within the first year itself, the plant churned out a staggering 1 lakh units. This impressive feat continued, with production figures reaching 10 lakh units in January 2011, and a phenomenal 20 lakh units by October 2013. The growth trajectory remained strong, with production reaching 30 lakh units in May 2015, and subsequently hitting 40 lakh units in August 2016. The plant celebrated another landmark in October 2017 with 50 lakh units produced, followed by 60 lakh units in January 2019. As of February 2024, the Manesar plant has achieved a remarkable production milestone of a whopping 95 lakh units!

Expansion Plans: Gearing Up for the Future

Maruti Suzuki has ambitious plans for the future. Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed the company’s dedication to the Government of India’s vision of “Make in India.” The new assembly line is a crucial step towards achieving this goal. The company aims to nearly double its production capacity to a staggering 4 million vehicles per annum within the next 7-8 years. This expansion will not only allow Maruti Suzuki to serve its customers faster but also enhance its overall manufacturing capabilities, reaching an impressive 23.5 lakh units annually.

The new assembly line incorporates cutting-edge technologies that prioritize human ergonomics, improve overall productivity, and enhance production traceability. This ensures better working conditions for employees, efficient car production, and a clear picture of every vehicle’s journey on the assembly line.

A Well-Oiled Machine: The Manesar Plant Ecosystem

The Manesar plant is a hub for a variety of popular Maruti Suzuki models, including the Brezza, XL6, WagonR, DZire, S-Presso, Ciaz, and Celerio. This plant operates alongside Maruti Suzuki’s other production unit in Hansalpur, Gujarat.

Meeting Customer Demands: Short Waiting Periods

Maruti Suzuki consistently sells around 1.50 lakh units every month, with many of its models consistently ranking among the top 10 best-selling cars in India. This high production volume ensures that most Maruti Suzuki models have a waiting period of only 8-10 weeks. However, some high-demand models like the Ertiga, Brezza, and the Tour commercial vehicles might have slightly longer waiting periods.
