Mahindra’s High Demand: Over 2.5 Lakh Pending Orders for XUV700, Scorpio N, and Thar
Mahindra, the renowned automobile manufacturer, is experiencing unprecedented demand for its SUVs, particularly the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar models. With an astonishing number of over 2.5 lakh pending orders, Mahindra has its hands full meeting customer expectations and reducing waiting periods. In this article, we delve into the specifics of the demand, waiting periods, and Mahindra’s strategies to address this situation.
Mahindra SUVs Witness Strong Demand
Despite Mahindra’s recent announcement that no new products will be launched this year, their SUV lineup continues to attract strong demand from customers. The Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar models, in particular, have gained immense popularity. However, the surge in demand comes with its own set of challenges, such as long waiting periods and customer frustrations.
Long Waiting Periods for Popular Models
While Mahindra’s Bolero and Bolero Neo models have a zero waiting period at most locations, it’s a different story for the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar. Customers interested in these models may have to wait up to 17 months to get their hands on them, which can be a test of their patience. The company acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the extended waiting periods and has made a strategic decision to prioritize the completion of pending orders.
Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic: Highest Number of Pending Orders
Among the models with pending orders, the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic take the lead with over 1.17 lakh units. Customers who choose the Scorpio Classic typically face a waiting period of around 7 months, while those opting for the Scorpio N may have to wait up to 17 months. The demand for both models far exceeds the current production capacity of approximately 14,000 units per month. Moreover, new bookings for the Scorpio models continue to pour in every month.
XUV700: Extended Waiting Periods Despite Production Increase
Previously, the XUV700 held the record for the longest waiting period among Mahindra’s SUVs. At one point last year, the waiting period reached a staggering 20 to 24 months. Even now, customers looking to purchase the XUV700 face a waiting period of more than a year, currently averaging around 13 months. The total number of pending orders for the XUV700 stands at 78,000 units, while the company manages to produce approximately 8,000 units per month.
Thar: Shift in Demand Patterns with the 2WD Variant
The launch of the 2WD variant earlier this year brought about a significant shift in the demand pattern for the Thar model. Priced attractively at Rs 9.99 lakh, the Thar 2WD became an irresistible deal for
Mahindra, a leading automobile manufacturer, is facing exceptional demand for its SUVs, particularly the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar models. With over 2.5 lakh pending orders, customers are experiencing long waiting periods ranging from 7 to 17 months. Despite this, models like Bolero and Bolero Neo have zero waiting periods. Mahindra aims to prioritize completing the pending orders and has halted new launches for this year. The Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic have the highest number of pending orders, followed by the XUV700. The Thar witnessed a shift in demand after the introduction of the 2WD variant. While waiting periods for the Thar 4WD range from 1 to 2 months, the 2WD variant has a waiting period of approximately 12 months. Mahindra plans to increase production capacity to reduce waiting periods, but semiconductor chip shortages remain a challenge. The company aims to optimize capacity utilization and clear pending orders throughout the year, postponing new launches to the following year.
