While radar might be absent, this is a significant safety upgrade for Mahindra. With the XUV 300 also expected to get ADAS, Mahindra is making it a more mainstream feature.

The spy shots also showcase the familiar new grille and LED headlamp setup. An electric sunroof adds a touch of comfort to the rugged Thar persona. The rear boasts LED taillamps and the signature mounted spare tire.

The familiar 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines are expected to continue, but with power tuned closer to the Scorpio-N. This could translate to 200 bhp and 370 Nm of torque for the petrol engine and 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque for the diesel. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are possibilities. Expect a 4×4 option at launch, with 4×2 likely following later.

Launch and Pricing

The latest spy shots suggest the Thar 5-door is nearing production. Rumors point to an August launch, perhaps even on Independence Day, mirroring the 3-door’s launch in 2020. Pricing is estimated to start from Rs 18 lakh and go up to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
