The Kia Seltos stormed the market in 2019 and remains a strong contender in 2024. However, its biggest drawback is the 3-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test. Let’s see if the facelift addresses this crucial aspect.

Safety Concerns Linger

Disappointingly, Kia remained silent on safety improvements during the Seltos facelift launch. This stands in contrast to Hyundai, which showcased the Creta’s platform upgrades with a focus on enhanced safety. Since both SUVs share the same platform, a safety edge for the Creta would be a concern for Seltos buyers. Kia’s silence suggests the facelift might not significantly improve the Seltos’ safety score. Here’s hoping that changes in the future.

BNCAP Testing: A New Hope

With the introduction of Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), the Seltos facelift won’t undergo GNCAP testing. Kia has welcomed BNCAP, acknowledging its role in boosting national safety standards. Hopefully, Kia will proactively submit the Seltos and other cars for BNCAP testing. A 5-star BNCAP rating could propel Seltos sales further in this competitive segment.

Standard Safety Features Remain

The Seltos facelift retains essential safety features like six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Other standard safety equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, advanced tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), vehicle stability management, and brake assist system. Higher variants boast ADAS features like forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, high beam assist, and lane keeping assist.

In Conclusion

While the Kia Seltos facelift offers a compelling package, the lack of clarity on safety upgrades is a concern. We wait to see if Kia prioritizes safety in future updates and achieves a stellar BNCAP rating to solidify the Seltos’ position in the Indian market.
