Black never goes out of style, and this holds true for cars as well. Car manufacturers have recognized the enduring appeal of black and have introduced special edition models of their popular SUVs in this coveted color. These Black Edition SUVs are essentially the mechanical equivalent of their standard counterparts, but with a cosmetic makeover that exudes sophistication and a touch of mystery. Let’s explore some of the hottest Black Edition SUVs currently available in the Indian market:

Tata Motors:

  • Nexon & Nexon EV Dark Edition: A true trendsetter, Tata was one of the first manufacturers to capitalize on the black edition craze. The Nexon, a popular sub-4 meter SUV offered in petrol, diesel, and electric avatars, received the Dark Edition treatment last year. Both the ICE and EV versions get a complete blackout on the exterior, with all chrome elements replaced by gloss black trims.
  • Harrier Dark Edition: The stylish Harrier also received a facelift last year, and a Black Edition variant soon followed. Similar to the Nexon Dark Edition, the Harrier sheds its chrome for a menacing blacked-out look. The dark theme extends to the interiors as well, creating a cohesive and sporty feel. This SUV is powered solely by a 2.0-liter diesel engine.
  • Safari Dark Edition: The Safari, Tata’s seven-seater sibling to the Harrier, wasn’t left behind in the black edition treatment. Just like the Harrier Dark Edition, the Safari gets a total black interior makeover, complete with black roof lining, upholstery, door pads, and a Dark Edition badge on the fenders.

MG Motor:

  • Gloster Blackstorm: MG’s flagship SUV, the Gloster, gets the Blackstorm treatment, transforming it into a commanding presence on the road. The Blackstorm edition boasts an all-black exterior accented with red highlights on the front skid plate, ORVMs, and brake calipers. Under the hood, the familiar 2.0-liter diesel engine continues to do duty.
  • Astor Black Storm: MG’s Astor, the brand’s entry-level SUV, was the first in its segment to offer Level 1 ADAS features. Keeping pace with the black edition trend, MG introduced a Blackstorm variant for the Astor as well. This SUV features an all-black exterior with red accents, complemented by a similarly themed black and red interior. The Astor Black Storm comes with two petrol engine options.
  • Hector Blackstorm: The recently launched Hector Blackstorm embodies MG’s signature black edition theme, accentuated by red accents throughout the vehicle. The interior gets a complete black upholstery makeover with red stitching, and red ambient lighting adds a touch of flair. Buyers can choose between petrol and diesel engine options for the Hector Blackstorm.

Other Manufacturers:

  • Jeep Compass Night Eagle: Jeep takes a slightly different approach with the Night Eagle edition of the Compass. While black remains the dominant color on the exterior and interior, Jeep also offers this limited edition variant in red and white for those seeking a bit more variety. The Night Eagle badge is exclusive to the diesel variant, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
  • Nissan Magnite Kuro Edition: Nissan’s interpretation of the black edition theme is the Magnite Kuro. This sub-compact SUV gets a complete blackout treatment, including the alloy wheels. Red brake calipers add a sporty touch. The black theme continues seamlessly into the interior. The Magnite Kuro offers buyers a choice between a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated or a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine.
  • Renault Kiger Urban Night Edition: Renault’s answer to the black edition trend is the Kiger Urban Night Edition. This SUV features a blacked-out exterior, although it retains the chrome garnish on the front grille. Despite the partial chrome accent, the Urban Night Edition offers a distinct visual appeal. It is available with both petrol engine options and boasts additional features like an auto-dimming IRVM.
  • Hyundai Venue Knight Edition: Launched last year, the Hyundai Venue Knight Edition stands out with its unique styling cues. The all-black exterior is complemented by brass-colored inserts on the front and rear bumpers, a dark chrome front grille, blacked-out alloy wheels with red calipers, and black roof rails with brass-colored inserts.
